If you like fish and seafood – I recommend the fish restaurants “Riblja Csarda”, located on the very edge of the lake, close to the Yacht Club, which specializes in these coulinary specialties. Here you may, often, stumble on a tambourine, or even “live” domestic or foreign rock gig.
Younger generations prefer a modernized, fancy, urban and newly opened cafe-bar „Terrace“ on the very lake. It’s always crowded with people. When it’s sunny and warm, the bar opens its terrace and so visitors can drink their coffees on the wooden board just above the water. Best deal this place has to offer are pizzas and desserts – squeezed juices, cakes and creams in colorful jars, and calorific bombs in the shape of irresistible waffles that are rich with cream, sour-cream, chocolate and fruity toppings. Pizza “Terrace” will be very appealling to all fans of italian food, because it is rich with flavours, melted cheese and tomato sauce.
A small advise – for sitting in this place you’ll need a „decently filled wallet“ because the prices are slightly higher than in other cafes in Palic and its environment, and more like the prices in Belgrade. Nevertheless, consider yourself very lucky if you manage to “get” a place here without a reservation!
My top favorite place to eat in Palic, is a traditional and well-known restaurant, with an old charm and very modern menu, which is called “MALA GOSTIONA“. When I was here three years ago, I tried absolutely THE BEST grilled chicken with prunes in a rich four cheese sauce! It was sooo great that I still cherish that sense of joy in my mouth. Also, it seems to me that this restaurant carefully select ingredients for their meals. They don’t do “wholesales”, but instead have some deals with locals, smaller growers, which is observed in the quality and taste of each salad, cheese placed in šopska salad, hot home-made bread, etc. I would definitely recommend the fish soup or potage sauce, as an appetizer, because both of these dishes are prepared as great as they can be!
If you want to get tipsy, or you’re just a fan of good cocktails, make sure that you spend one night in “FLAIR BAR”. This is a “not-so-famous cocktail bar in Subotica“, where the mass consists mainly of locals, and the quality of the cocktails and a variety of supply can compete with any capital city’s “acclaimed” cocktail bars. They don’t skimp on material and alcohol, and bartender skills are at enviously high level. The music is suited for a light flirtation, dances and chill, and the prices are more than affordable, and most cocktails such as “Long Island Ice Tea,” “Stopper” and “Flaming Lamborghini” costs only 2 or 3 euros.
Putin’s and Blue Lagoon is where I, personally, like to go, because they are very inexpensive and good for your wallet. Thus, tourists usually don’t come here, it’s filled with locals and their quality reflects only in some local charms and very low prices. When you come here you feel that time has stopped (in the Blue Lagoon there is even a juke box which is still working), So why not pause your busy day and drink a cold one, in here?
If you want to eat in Subotica, we recommend a restaurant called „BOSS“ (cafe /restaurant/ pizzeria/bar) which is known to locals as well as globally, because it stands out for the variety of its offer, and the top location in the center of the city, very near to railway station, and because of its popularity among the youth and represents a sort of the meeting place of young people and people who want to be “seen”. Prices here are in line with the quality, but their culinary delights here are nevertheless awsome. Here I can recommend a very good Chinese cuisine, which you can not find anywhere else in Subotica or its environment, advise plus – order a chineese chicken with peanuts, don’t order hoisini squids.
